TAC-CoT: Tool-Empowered Implicit Chain-of-Thought via Interleaving Explicit Tokens

Read the original on arXiv Computation and Language →

TAC-CoT is a framework that replaces explicit chain-of-thought reasoning with compact latent reasoning segments, keeping only textual tokens for tool calls, observations, and final answers. This interleaved design allows large language model agents to use tools without generating full verbal reasoning steps. Experiments on math and QA benchmarks show up to 8.8‑point accuracy gains and a 6.8× reduction in model forward passes, while also improving tool‑use quality in single- and multi‑tool settings.

Adaptive Latent Agentic Reasoning

arXiv:2606. 02871v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Large reasoning models improve performance by generating extended chain-of-thought (CoT) reasoning, but this behavior becomes inefficient when applied to LLM agents.

Inducing Reasoning Primitives from Agent Traces

ReAct-style LLM agents often rediscover the same reasoning routines across problems, yet leave those routines trapped in transient scratchpads. We introduce Reasoning Primitive Induction, a single-pass method that mines successful ReAct traces, clusters recurrent reasoning moves, and converts the most frequent moves into a compact library of typed pseudo-tools.
