Reasoning-Informed Visual Editing

Read the original on arXiv Computer Vision →

The paper introduces RISEBench and its expanded version RISEBench++, a benchmark for evaluating reasoning-informed visual editing (RISE). RISEBench++ categorizes tasks into six reasoning dimensions—Temporal, Causal, Spatial, Logical, Counterfactual, and Hybrid—decomposed into 12 subcategories and 65 fine-grained task types, and includes 1,000 human‑annotated test cases in English and Chinese. The authors also present RISE‑Agent, a training‑free framework that integrates reasoning‑driven planning, tool‑augmented execution, and verifier‑guided refinement, outperforming most existing approaches on diverse RISE tasks.

Aphanta: Diagnosing Task-Aligned Image-Edited Intermediates for Multimodal Reasoning

Aphanta is an automated framework that diagnoses how well image editors can produce task‑aligned visual intermediates for multimodal large language models (MLLMs). It evaluates three reasoning conditions—direct, editor‑generated, and idealized intermediate—to distinguish visual potential from practical editor performance across 20 tasks and various editor–MLLM pairs. The study finds that image editing benefits certain tasks like visual cue injection and grounding, but is less reliable for symbol‑sensitive or structural tasks, and demonstrates measurable performance gains with a Qwen pipeline.

WeAgent-MMGenEdit: A Full-Stack Recipe for Multimodal Agentic Image Generation and Editing

WeAgent-MMGenEdit is a comprehensive framework for multimodal agentic image generation and editing that addresses the unreliability of current models when prompts require external world knowledge. It introduces a multimodal harness with persistent evidence management, a scalable data construction pipeline producing 23K supervised trajectories and 14.7K RL tasks, and a bilingual benchmark (WeBench-MMGenEdit) for knowledge-intensive generation and multi-image editing. Post‑training methods based on SFT and RL further refine the agent policy and image backend, enabling a 30B‑parameter policy to outperform similarly sized models and approach the performance of a 1T‑parameter agent.

ReasonEdit: Editing Vision-Language Models using Human Reasoning

ReasonEdit is a new editor for vision‑language models that allows users to provide reasoning explanations during the editing process. It stores human reasoning in a codebook and retrieves relevant facts at inference time using a topology‑balanced multimodal embedding approach inspired by network science. Experiments on four VLMs and multiple rationale‑based visual question answering datasets show that incorporating human reasoning leads to state‑of‑the‑art editing performance and better generalization.
