arXiv:2605. 22142v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Reinforcement learning under partial observability requires deciding what information to retain, yet most memory-based approaches do not explicitly model short-term-to-long-term transfer of symbolic observations.

Large Language Model (LLM) agents increasingly rely on external memory systems to accumulate experience across tasks. Yet nearly all existing approaches, from graph-structured memories to reflective insight stores, access memory through fixed, hand-designed heuristics.

Conversational AI agents commonly lack persistent memory across sessions. The obvious fixes like injecting full chat histories into the context window, or delegating to a third-party memory service, either exhaust the model's context budget or send personal data through infrastructure the user does not control.
