MLREF: Efficient Module Reuse for Reward Design in Reinforcement Learning via Large Language Models

Read the original on arXiv AI →

MLREF introduces a Module Level Reward Evolution Framework that uses a persistent pool of reusable reward components to improve reward design in reinforcement learning. The framework constructs reward functions as linear combinations of modules from this pool and evolves the pool through reflection-based refinement, hybrid credit assignment, and a merge strategy with rollback. Experiments on 17 tasks demonstrate that MLREF outperforms strong baselines, achieving a 25.2% improvement in locomotion and 6.6% in manipulation with more stable optimization dynamics.

In-the-Flow Agentic System Optimization for Effective Planning and Tool Use

arXiv:2510. 05592v2 Announce Type: replace Abstract: Outcome-driven reinforcement learning has advanced reasoning in large language models (LLMs), but prevailing tool-augmented approaches train a single, monolithic policy that interleaves thoughts and tool calls under full context; this scales poorly with long horizons and diverse tools and generalizes weakly to new scenarios.

SkillRise: Agentic Reinforcement Learning for Cross-Task Skill Evolution

Large language model agents often encounter related yet distinct tasks that share reusable solution patterns. Yet standard agentic reinforcement learning treats tasks as independent episodes, while existing approaches to skill learning either focus on repeated attempts of one task or use pipelines with multiple stages that entangle extraction, retrieval, and execution.
