MedInsightBench: Evaluating Medical Analytics Agents Through Multi-Step Insight Discovery in Multimodal Medical Data

Read the original on arXiv AI →

MedInsightBench is a new benchmark comprising 332 curated medical cases with annotated insights, designed to evaluate large multimodal models (LMMs) and agent frameworks on their ability to analyze medical image data, ask relevant questions, interpret findings, and synthesize actionable recommendations. The study finds that current LMMs perform poorly on this benchmark due to difficulties in extracting multi-step insights and lacking medical expertise. To address this, the authors propose MedInsightAgent, an automated agent framework with three modules—Visual Root Finder, Analytical Insight Agent, and Follow-up Question Composer—that improves LMM performance on MedInsightBench.

MedResearcher-R1: Expert-Level Medical Deep Researcher via A Knowledge-Informed Trajectory Synthesis Framework

MedResearcher‑R1 is a medical deep‑research agent that uses a Knowledge‑Informed Trajectory Synthesis (KISA) framework to build medical knowledge graphs and generate complex multi‑hop question‑answer pairs, especially for rare medical entities. It also incorporates a medical retrieval engine and general‑purpose tools to reliably synthesize medical evidence. The resulting 2,100+ trajectories across 12 specialties enable supervised fine‑tuning and reinforcement learning, producing a 32B model that outperforms larger proprietary systems on MedBrowseComp and shows strong performance on GAIA and xBench benchmarks.

ClinFusion: A Vision-Centric Multimodal LLM System for Holistic Medical Understanding

arXiv:2607. 24743v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) hold immense potential to revolutionize clinical practice, yet deploying them in the medical domain is fundamentally a vision-centric challenge: models must absorb knowledge from heterogeneous 2D and 3D medical images, and evaluation protocols must align with radiologists' clinical practice and provide an accurate, fine-grained and factualness-driven assessment.

Lingshu: A Generalist Foundation Model for Unified Multimodal Medical Understanding and Reasoning

Lingshu is a medical‑specialized multimodal large language model that addresses key limitations of existing medical MLLMs, such as narrow knowledge coverage, hallucinations, and weak reasoning. The authors curate a comprehensive dataset combining medical imaging, texts, and general‑domain data, then train Lingshu in multiple stages to embed medical expertise and improve task performance. They also introduce MedEvalKit, a unified evaluation framework, and demonstrate that Lingshu outperforms current open‑source multimodal models on multimodal QA, text‑based QA, and medical report generation.

ClinFusion: A Vision-Centric Multimodal LLM System for Holistic Medical Understanding

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) hold immense potential to revolutionize clinical practice, yet deploying them in the medical domain is fundamentally a vision-centric challenge: models must absorb knowledge from heterogeneous 2D and 3D medical images, and evaluation protocols must align with radiologists' clinical practice and provide an accurate, fine-grained and factualness-driven assessment. In this paper, we introduce ClinFusion, a vision-centric MLLM designed for holistic medical understanding that systematically addresses these limitations.

A Multimodal Agentic Pathology Co-pilot via Evidence Grounded Reasoning

PathPocket is a multimodal AI co‑pilot that grounds pathology decision‑making in evidence. It builds the largest pathology evidence corpus (≈110,472 documents) and a hypergraph of 4.55 million entities and 7.10 million relations to support traceable reasoning. The system handles text and multimodal queries, including ROI and gigapixel whole‑slide images, and outperforms current state‑of‑the‑art models on a benchmark of over 200,000 real‑world cases, improving pathologists’ diagnostic accuracy and confidence.
