Dream-COP: Guiding Algorithm Discovery for Combinatorial Optimization Problems in an Experience World

Read the original on arXiv AI →

Dream-COP introduces a framework that uses large language models to discover algorithms for combinatorial optimization problems by replaying past search trajectories in an experience world. A policy agent learns to guide a discovery agent through dreaming, providing feedback on program quality and search steps. Experiments on five COPs show that Dream-COP outperforms fixed exploration, matching optimal values on the Knapsack Problem and reducing the OBPP gap while cutting search requests by 42.5%, and its policies transfer across different problems.

Training the Orchestrator: A Supervised Approach to End-to-End PDDL Planning with LLM Agents

Translating natural-language planning intent into verified plans is a longstanding challenge: people communicate goals in language, while classical planners require formal PDDL specifications. Recent agentic frameworks bridge this gap by orchestrating a pool of specialized repair agents inside a verifier-checked refinement loop, but the orchestrator at the centre is itself a prompted frontier LLM, paying a frontier-LLM API call at every refinement step.
