arXiv:2606. 16360v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Chain-of-thought (CoT) prompting improves reasoning in large language models (LLMs) by externalizing intermediate computation as discrete text tokens, but this textual interface also introduces redundancy and inference overhead.
A*-Thought-V2 is a framework that models Chain-of-Thought reasoning as a geometric trajectory in a 3D PCA space, using explicit-implicit latent tokens to compress steps that deviate from the main question-to-solution direction. The method measures alignment angles to decide which steps remain text and which become latent, and introduces stepwise embedding forcing and label forcing to train the architecture. Experiments on Qwen models show up to 2.6% accuracy gains, halved response length, and significant reductions in computation and training time.

ToM2Vec introduces continuous theory-of-mind tokens that enable large language model agents to reason about multiple possible partner states in multi‑agent settings. By training these tokens to abstract partner thoughts, the model generates latent representations that condition agents’ thoughts and actions, improving performance across collaborative, competitive, and mixed‑motive environments. The approach demonstrates that latent reasoning outperforms text‑based reasoning and generalizes to unseen partner models, with tokens encoding partner beliefs, desires, and next actions.
arXiv:2607. 01077v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: While inference-time scaling has improved the reasoning abilities of large language models (LLMs), the need to generate long chains-of-thought (CoTs) is a computational bottleneck.
arXiv:2606. 06447v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Large language models often improve reasoning by generating explicit chain-of-thought (CoT), demonstrating the importance of intermediate computation.
Large Reasoning Models often overthink, producing redundant reasoning steps that consume many tokens. The authors observe that efficient reasoning steps cluster in a concentrated region of latent space, while verbose steps lie outside this region. By projecting deviating hidden states back into the region via a quadratic program, they propose a training‑free framework that cuts token generation by up to 52.8% while improving accuracy by up to 12.1% across several benchmarks.
