Aphanta is an automated framework that diagnoses how well image editors can produce task‑aligned visual intermediates for multimodal large language models (MLLMs). It evaluates three reasoning conditions—direct, editor‑generated, and idealized intermediate—to distinguish visual potential from practical editor performance across 20 tasks and various editor–MLLM pairs. The study finds that image editing benefits certain tasks like visual cue injection and grounding, but is less reliable for symbol‑sensitive or structural tasks, and demonstrates measurable performance gains with a Qwen pipeline.

WeAgent-MMGenEdit is a comprehensive framework for multimodal agentic image generation and editing that addresses the unreliability of current models when prompts require external world knowledge. It introduces a multimodal harness with persistent evidence management, a scalable data construction pipeline producing 23K supervised trajectories and 14.7K RL tasks, and a bilingual benchmark (WeBench-MMGenEdit) for knowledge-intensive generation and multi-image editing. Post‑training methods based on SFT and RL further refine the agent policy and image backend, enabling a 30B‑parameter policy to outperform similarly sized models and approach the performance of a 1T‑parameter agent.

ReasonEdit is a new editor for vision‑language models that allows users to provide reasoning explanations during the editing process. It stores human reasoning in a codebook and retrieves relevant facts at inference time using a topology‑balanced multimodal embedding approach inspired by network science. Experiments on four VLMs and multiple rationale‑based visual question answering datasets show that incorporating human reasoning leads to state‑of‑the‑art editing performance and better generalization.

PrismGPT is a Vision‑Language Model that generates structured, region‑aware photo‑editing plans from a single image, without relying on commercial black‑box tools. It learns to diagnose aesthetic issues globally and locally while predicting precise editing parameters, using proxy‑guided learning with operation decomposition and region‑aware aesthetic ranking to bootstrap the model. A competence‑based dynamic scheduler shifts training focus from proxy tasks to the main editing task as skills improve, and all reasoning traces for fine‑tuning are self‑synthesized by the model itself. Experiments on MIT‑Adobe FiveK and a new professionally retouched benchmark, SPIRE, show PrismGPT achieves state‑of‑the‑art results using only about 6% of the training data required by previous methods.

Recent advances in multimodal generative models have enabled instruction-based image generation to move beyond semantic manipulation to knowledge-driven visual reasoning. However, these methods focus on explicit commonsense reasoning, shallow causal understanding, and direct knowledge recall, failing at knowledge-intensive generation.

CoWorld Reasoner is an agentic framework that leverages a Video World Model (VWM) as a unified visual reasoning engine for Vision‑Language Models (VLMs). It exposes multiple visual operations through tools and skills, allowing the VLM to decide when to imagine, select an operation, generate visual content, and interpret the resulting evidence. The framework includes a VLM‑VWM Harness Co‑Evolution mechanism that jointly refines tools, skills, and execution code based on feedback, while keeping model weights fixed. Across seven benchmarks covering spatial, temporal, causal, and perceptual reasoning, CoWorld Reasoner outperforms direct VLM reasoning and improves accuracy on all benchmarks, achieving notable gains on MMSI and ERQA.

GraphVerse is a new benchmark for multimodal large language models that tests visual graph reasoning by combining perception, graph-based visual inputs, and multi-step reasoning. It introduces Graph-centric Image Editing strategies to actively challenge models while preserving semantics, and offers a VGR-Score metric that evaluates reasoning quality beyond simple answer accuracy. Experiments show current models have limitations in VGR and demonstrate the effectiveness of GraphVerse for broader multimodal reasoning tasks.
