Agentic retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) extends static RAG by allowing language models to iteratively reason, generate search queries, retrieve evidence, and predict answers. However, it remains challenging for models to decide when to retrieve, whether to use lexical matching or semantic similarity, and how to control context granularity to prevent irrelevant tokens from interfering with agent reasoning.
arXiv:2606. 16316v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Retrieving external knowledge is essential for solving real-world tasks, yet it remains challenging when the relationship between a query and its relevant knowledge involves implicit and complex reasoning beyond surface-level semantic or lexical matching (e.

CARA is a training‑free, causally guided retrieval agent designed for question answering over text‑rich knowledge graphs. It evaluates retrieved evidence using two causal criteria—consequentiality and essentiality—alongside path consistency, and aggregates results from multiple agents via reciprocal rank fusion. Experiments on three STaRK datasets show that CARA outperforms existing retrievers, improving answer quality and faithfulness while examining fewer graph nodes and requiring fewer retrieval operations.

ArenaFlow is a hierarchical credit propagation framework designed to improve reinforcement learning for open-ended agent tasks. It uses tournament-based relative ranking to generate trajectory-level rewards and structured reflective evaluation to identify pivotal success steps, reusable strategy skills, and skill usage attribution. The framework propagates advantages to high-confidence steps and maintains a global skill memory, enabling more targeted optimization and reusable skill priors for future exploration.
