The paper introduces LIFT, a lightweight vector‑intervention technique that transfers reasoning capability from a base large language model (LLM) to a vision‑language model (VLM) without retraining the VLM backbone. LIFT defines Reasoning Vectors as differences in hidden states between a reasoning path with an explicit trace and a solver path without it, and injects these vectors into the VLM’s language‑side activations. Experiments on two VLMs across six reasoning benchmarks show that vectors derived from the base LLM consistently outperform those derived from the aligned VLM, indicating that the base LLM is a more effective source for recovering degraded reasoning. "whyItMatters":"The study demonstrates that a simple, frozen‑backbone intervention can partially restore reasoning abilities in multimodal models, highlighting the value of leveraging the original language model’s reasoning power."

arXiv:2511. 17731v2 Announce Type: replace-cross Abstract: Chain-of-Thought (CoT) prompting has proven remarkably effective for eliciting complex reasoning in large language models (LLMs).

MMEmb-R1 is a multimodal embedding framework that enhances reasoning by treating it as a latent variable and selecting beneficial reasoning paths through pair-aware selection and counterfactual intervention. It uses reinforcement learning to invoke reasoning only when necessary, reducing unnecessary computation and latency. On the MMEB-V2 benchmark, MMEmb-R1 achieves a state‑of‑the‑art score of 71.2 with just 4 B parameters.
arXiv:2608. 03450v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Reasoning in Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) requires both fine-grained visual perception and rigorous logical deduction.
Uni-LaDiR (Unified Latent Diffusion Reasoner) is a new framework that unifies multimodal reasoning by mapping teacher reasoning steps from different modalities into a shared latent space of thought tokens. It employs a diffusion model to predict the next block of thought tokens, jointly training the encoder and reasoner with shared weights to ensure tokens are both useful and predictable. The approach achieves relative gains of 7.3% on visual reasoning benchmarks and 6.1% on robot manipulation tasks compared to the strongest baselines.
arXiv:2608. 02833v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Chart question answering (CQA) requires multimodal large language models (MLLMs) to integrate visual comprehension with logical reasoning, yet current models struggle with accurate visual grounding and coherent reasoning chains.
Reinforcement learning with verifiable rewards (RLVR) has emerged as an effective approach for improving multimodal reasoning. However, most existing methods evaluate an entire response using a binary reward based only on final-answer correctness, thereby discarding the supervision available in intermediate reasoning steps.
CoWorld Reasoner is an agentic framework that leverages a Video World Model (VWM) as a unified visual reasoning engine for Vision‑Language Models (VLMs). It exposes multiple visual operations through tools and skills, allowing the VLM to decide when to imagine, select an operation, generate visual content, and interpret the resulting evidence. The framework includes a VLM‑VWM Harness Co‑Evolution mechanism that jointly refines tools, skills, and execution code based on feedback, while keeping model weights fixed. Across seven benchmarks covering spatial, temporal, causal, and perceptual reasoning, CoWorld Reasoner outperforms direct VLM reasoning and improves accuracy on all benchmarks, achieving notable gains on MMSI and ERQA.
