Rethinking Training & Inference for Forecasting: Linking Winner-Take-All back to GMMs

arXiv:2606. 26424v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Trajectory forecasting for autonomous driving has advanced rapidly, yet representative models often produce uninformative posteriors over forecast modes, causing problems for mode pruning.

SimWAM: A Simple World Action Model for End-to-End Autonomous Driving

SimWAM is a lightweight World-Action Model that uses future‑video prediction only during training to supervise an action expert, enabling end‑to‑end autonomous driving without costly test‑time future imagination. The architecture co‑trains a pretrained video expert and a lightweight action expert via joint flow matching, while an isolated attention mask keeps action prediction independent of future frames. This design allows the video backbone to be swapped and the action expert scaled independently, achieving 91.5 PDMS on NAVSIM, outperforming state‑of‑the‑art WAM planners with lower latency and zero‑shot transfer to nuScenes.

CoLT-Drive: Counterfactual Long-Tail Benchmarking and Knowledge-Preserving Adaptation for Driving Affordance Prediction

The paper introduces CoLT-Drive, a 3,536-sample counterfactual long‑tail benchmark for evaluating decision‑level driving affordance prediction, which tests whether models can infer how rare objects affect an ego vehicle’s high‑level actions. It also proposes KPA, a knowledge‑preserving adaptation framework that combines structured prompting, expert merging, and a regime‑aware LoRA mixture‑of‑experts module to improve small VLMs on driving tasks. Experiments show KPA achieves 60.8% pair accuracy on CoLT‑Drive, outperforming the Qwen3‑VL‑2B baseline and LoRA SFT while keeping competitive in‑domain performance.

Guiding End-to-End Driving Models with Endpoint-Constrained Trajectory Optimization

The paper introduces Endpoint-Constrained Optimization (ECO), a lightweight postprocessing layer that corrects intermediate waypoints of end-to-end driving policies while preserving the predicted endpoint. ECO does not require maps, privileged simulator state, or additional training, and can be applied to a wide range of waypoint-emitting policies. Experiments on two closed-loop simulators show that ECO significantly improves closed-loop performance, achieving top results in the HUGSIM Closed-Loop Driving Challenge and boosting scene scores on AlpaSim.

DA-WAM: Decision-Aligned Future Latents for Driving World Models

DA‑WAM is a framework that integrates predictive representation learning, action‑conditioned future modeling, and trajectory scoring into a single decision‑making objective for autonomous driving. It uses an online encoder with a stable momentum target to keep future representations aligned with the driving task, generating a distinct future latent for each trajectory candidate. A future‑latent‑conditioned scorer evaluates these latents, with expert‑matched trajectories supervised by observed futures and safety‑critical hard negatives providing additional guidance, achieving state‑of‑the‑art results on NAVSIM‑v1 and NAVSIM‑v2.
